Janoska Academy

Application deadline: May 20, 2026.

The Janoska Ensemble, with its distinctive approach to diverse musical styles, transcends genre boundaries to create a unique “polyglot” musical language. Their debut CD The Janoška Style, released by Deutsche Grammophon in 2016, achieved gold status within just a few months. When arranging classical repertoire, the ensemble embraces spontaneous creativity, producing music that is both innovative and vibrant – music that “lives and breathes.” The arrangements are crafted by three brothers from Bratislava – Ondrej, Roman, and František Janoška – along with their brother-in-law from Konstanz, Julius Darvaš. Their concerts are known for their strong audience connection, emotional engagement, humor, exceptional virtuosity, and even theatrical flair, often earning standing ovations. Thanks to The Janoška Style album, the ensemble has received invitations from major figures in the music world, including Anna Netrebko, Al Jarreau, Bobby McFerrin, Juan Diego Flórez, Julian Rachlin, Randy Newman, and others. Members of the ensemble also regularly conduct masterclasses. In addition to The Janoška Style, the ensemble has released the albums Revolution (2019), The Big B (2022), and their most recent, The Four Seasons – Janoška Style (2024).

Through their pedagogical work, the Janoska Ensemble encourages musicians to develop their own artistic voice, combining improvisation with classical music and strengthening the self-confidence of young artists. The members regularly give masterclasses and workshops worldwide, including at the Kronberg Academy, as well as at the Amadeus Festival in Vienna and the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad.

Both active and passive participation in the course are available. Active participation includes individual lessons based on the submitted repertoire, as well as taking part in group sessions working with musical material distinctive to the Janoska style, with special emphasis on improvisation. Passive participation allows attendance at all classes held during the Janoska academy.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation, an accompanist is provided throughout the duration of the course, and attendees with active participation will have the opportunity to perform with the Janoska Ensemble at the academy’s final concert.
In the event of a large number of applications, participants will be selected by the Janoska Ensemble based on the submitted materials. If the number of applications is insufficient, the masterclass will be cancelled.
