Alexander Kniazev is one of the most distinguished and versatile Russian musicians of his generation. He graduated in Cello from the Moscow Conservatory in 1986 and in Organ from the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory in 1991. He is a laureate of numerous international competitions. As a cellist, he has appeared with leading orchestras and some of the world’s most renowned conductors, including Evgeny Svetlanov, Yuri Temirkanov, Kurt Masur, Mstislav Rostropovich, Vladimir Fedoseyev, and Mikhail Pletnev. In chamber music, he has collaborated with acclaimed artists such as Evgeny Kissin, Nikolai Lugansky, Denis Matsuev, Boris Berezovsky, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Vladimir Spivakov, Vadim Repin, Sergei Krylov, and Yuri Bashmet. He regularly appears at the world’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls, including the Vienna Musikverein, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Salle Pleyel in Paris, Wigmore Hall in London, and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. His extensive discography includes the complete recording of Bach’s Cello Suites (Warner Classics). As an organist, Alexander Kniazev has performed in major concert halls and churches throughout Europe and worldwide, including the Church of St. Eustache and Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. His organ repertoire encompasses works by Bach, Mozart, Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, and Franck. He has received numerous awards and distinctions, and in 1999 he was named “Musician of the Year” in Russia.
