Improvisations

Gabriela Montero began studying piano at the age of four, and gave her debut concert at the age of eight in her hometown of Caracas. She continued her  education in the United States and at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied under Hamish Milne. Her recent performances include collaborations with the San Francisco Symphony, the New World Symphony, and the symphony orchestras of national broadcasters in Vienna, Poland, Antwerp, and Sweden, and with the BBC, among others. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in numerous prestigious concert venues such as Wigmore Hall, the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Sydney Opera House, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and Hong Kong City Hall, as well as at festivals around the world. Following her debut composition Ex Patria – a symphonic poem portraying Venezuela’s descent into lawlessness, corruption, and violence, premiered by the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields in 2011 – Gabriela Montero went on to compose Piano Concerto No. 1 and Latin Concerto. In addition to her award-winning and best-selling album Latin Concerto (Orchid
Classics), she has recorded albums featuring her own works, as well as music by Bach, Rachmaninoff, and Latin American composers. Since 2024, Gabriela Montero has been a Piano faculty member at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
