The Sonoma Duo brings to the stage a fusion of diverse genres, woven together into boundless, expressive, and imaginative soundscapes. Their musical journey, now spanning over two decades, began in childhood through the shared creation of music. Over the years, the sisters have grown and evolved together, refining a unique form of mutual interaction through their sound and compositions. Raised in a musically diverse environment, they have always remained open to new musical experiences and the exploration of various styles. In 2018, they began presenting their original compositions to a wider audience. With the release of their debut album I in 2021, they attracted significant attention on the Austrian music scene and in the media. In their original works, they blend classical music, jazz, Slovenian folk music from Carinthia, and other styles, crafting a distinctive sonic harmony. With an intense burst of varied performance techniques, they create a unique and recognizable musical expression. Through nonverbal communication and a strong sense of unity while performing, they generate a singular musical dialogue. In 2024, the Sonoma Duo was awarded the Carinthian Music Promotion Prize.

Artists

Mira Gregorič, a versatile jazz violinist, performer, rhythm specialist, and music educator, began playing the violin at the age of four. She completed her undergraduate studies in Music and Movement/Rhythmics in 2018, followed by a master’s program in Jazz Violin in 2021. She is active in several musical ensembles, including the Sonoma Duo, GMC, and the Pia Denz Octet. As a member of the Sonoma Duo, Mira Gregorič has recorded the albums I (2021) and II (2024). She regularly collaborates with theater productions as a performer. She applies her musical expertise in children’s theater productions, children’s concerts, and projects for adult audiences. In 2020, Mira co-authored the interdisciplinary short art film UNSHACKLEDEPISODES in collaboration with dancer Mirjam Sadjak. Her interdisciplinary work was supported in 2022 by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport (BMKOES), which enabled the realization of the performance Reversed Refill.

Sara Gregorič began learning guitar at the age of four from her father. She attended the Carinthian Music School and later studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where she completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Instrumental Pedagogy, majoring in Guitar under Professor Ahmed Baluch and Gunter Schneider. In addition to her work as a guitar teacher, she earned a master’s degree in Music Education – Music in Context – from the Anton Bruckner University. In 2023, Sara was part of the management team in the Music Play in Education department of the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. She views music education as a vital component of the contemporary music scene and works actively as a freelance music educator across various fields. She is devoted to chamber music and regularly performs in different chamber ensembles. Her collaboration with her sister in the Sonoma Duo is particularly acclaimed.
